UKAY: "Fashionista"

My close friends usually dub me "fashionista" because I love to dress up. But I am not like those other fashionistas and bloggers that are very creative and daring with their outfits.

I joined Chictopia and the other sites alike. I remember posting few photos which were automatically posted in my Tumblr account and after those posts, I received different messages regarding my outfits. Some were compliments and some were questions and the usual question I get whenever I post another outfit pose was... "Where do you buy your clothes?"

Honestly, about 89% of my clothes are from second hand shops (more known in the Philippines as ukay-ukay). I was raised by my grandmother who was an ukay obsessed person. Most of our bed sheets, pillow cases, curtains, her clothes, my clothes, my grand father's clothes were all from ukay. My mother that time works in the province so half my life, I was raised by the ukay queen.

When my mom came back to town, I was excited that she'd give me nice, and branded pasalubongs only to find out that those that she bought were also from the ukay-ukays in the province she was in. Well, I couldn't really blame her for there were no other shops or even a mall to buy those branded clothes from.

From that moment on, I learned to buy most of my apparels and a few of my foot wear from the second hand shops. I brought that habit in the Philippines.

Since I was at my Dad's office in the town of Port Moresby this late afternoon, and while my father and I waited for my mother to finish work, I decided to scout for a second hand shop around the area. Funny how I never saw this ukay shop right next to the front gate of the office!

Ukay shops here in Papua New Guinea may look very crowded, filthy and messy, but they really have good apparels and items for you. The shop I went to is named Flex Clothing which is located right next to the front door of Monian/Raywhite tower, adjacent to Street Scene.

When I got there, the racks were just half filled already. I kinda lost interest to search through those racks but after seeing florals, I gained back the excitement of discovering good finds. And I did not waste any time. I think I found some of the best finds there.

These were my finds...

I'm so happy because I was able to buy these brands for a very cheap price. It is the reason why I love doing ukay shopping here in Papua New Guinea. Famous brands in Australia are being sold and even though they are second hand clothing, they are still of good condition. My pay was definitely worth these items. I was definitely satisfied.
